7:46 — The Cowboys select Martellus Bennett. Thank you very much. I’m available for children’s parties and trips to Vegas.

7:42 — The Packers take CB Patrick Lee

The Cowboys are in the on-deck circle.

7:40 — The Colts finally make a pick — C Mike Pollack

7:34 — The Bucs take Dexter Jackson

7:27 — The Dolphins pick Chad Henne

7:24 — The Packers pick Brian Brohm. More proof that Brett Favre will not be coming back.

7:20 — The Ravens pick Ray Rice

7:16 — The Titans pick Jason Jones

7:10 — The Steelers pick Limas Sweed

Notes: Biggest smoke screen of the day — that Chad Henne and Brian Brohm were big time bait. Both are still on the board 52 picks in.

7:06 — Jacksonville trades up and gets Quentin Groves.

Top players available: Chad Henne, Jamaal Charles, Limas Sweed, DeSean Jackson, Brian Brohm, Quentin Groves, Malcolm Kelly, Tyrell Johnson, Fred Davis, Kevin Smith, Martellus Bennett, Dan Connor, Anthony Collins, Justin King, DaJuan Morgan, Marcus Harrison, Oneil Cousins, Bryan Kehl

7:01 — The Redskins pick Malcolm Kelly

6:57 — The Cards take Calais Campbell

6:53 — The Eagles pick DeSean Jackson

6:47 — The Redskins pick TE Fred Davis

6:45 — The Eagles finally make a pick — DT Trevor Laws

6:42 — The Bengals take WR Jerome Simpson. The consensus board has fallen completely apart the last dozen picks.

Top players available: Chad Henne, Jamaal Charles, Limas Sweed, DeSean Jackson, Brian Brohm, Quentin Groves, Malcolm Kelly, Tyrell Johnson, Fred Davis, Kevin Smith, Martellus Bennett,

6:36 — The Lions take Jordan Dizon. Be happy you don’t have to hold Matt Millen’s press conference tonight.

6:29 — The Bears take RB Matt Forte. The Lions misery continues. This is another player Detroit liked.

6:24 — The Vikings move up to pick 43 and take Tyrell Johnson. D’oh squared. What are the Eagles doing? Do they not like any of the players picked so far? Do they think their roster is so set they don’t need a pick in the top 35 two years in a row?

6:23 — The Broncos take Eddie Royal. What does that say about DeSean Jackson that somebody with his game trumps him?

6:21 — Got Chris Berman muzzled. Ahhhh!

Top players available: Chad Henne, DeSean Jackson, Brian Brohm, Quentin Groves, Malcolm Kelly, Tyrell Johnson.

6:17 — The Bills take James Hardy

6:12 — New Orleans takes Tracy Porter

6:08 — Half a loaf. Jerry Jones is on the NFL Network but the audio in the joint is still with ESPN. One step at a time…

6:07 — Catching up — Seahawks take TE John Carlson; The Saints take OG Chilo Rachal.

6:04 — just asked the manager to switch to the NFL Network. ESPN has gone to their happy talk and has missed two picks. I hate this. I just hate this. Plus, Chris Berman’s voice can make my spine bend. That network’s sell-by date passed a long time ago.

5:54 — Falcons take Curtis Lofton

Note: Drafts I like so far. I’m happy with Dallas’ picks but the top early prize goes to K.C. Glenn Dorsey, Branden Albert and Brandon Flowers is a good start to a draft.

5:51 — The Packers take WR Jordy Nelson. The WR run is turbocharged. This is the first pick that makes me say “D’oh!”

5:47 — The Chiefs take Brandon Flowers. This is fast. This is fun.

5:43 — The Redskins take Devin Thomas. The WR run is officially on.

5:40 — The Rams start the WR run by taking Donnie Avery. Raise your hands if you thought Donnie Avery would be the 1st WR off the board.

5:37 — The Dolphins get it started by taking DE Phillip Merling

5:55 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

UnconventionalWisdom:

I guess I can’t complain about not taking a Wr with our first when nobody else did either. But I have high hopes for the second round–Doucett, Sweed, Hardy anyone?

05
5:56 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

cormanman:

Wow, WRs are not falling as planned.

Good that we waited.

06
5:56 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

Gotta say that I think Jones is the perfect fit in our system if we get the barbarian signed. Come on guys we’ve got our home run hitter at RB and our Packman insurance policy! What more do you want?!?

07
5:56 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

stoproyce:

none of them make it to 61.

08
5:57 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

cormanman:

The biggest D’oh for me is Houston’s pick of D. Brown (OT).

Reeeeeaaaach.

You’d have thought that was a pick by the Bills.

09
5:57 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

staubachfan:

Raf,

What do you think about the new pace of the draft?

10
5:58 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

The order the WR’s are being taken in is crazy.
This is exactly why I said don’t take a WR until the 3rd or 4th. There are no clear cut top 3.

Bring me Tyrell Johnson

11
5:58 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

i would really like jj to trade up and take de sean jackson. You have to be a great player to even make it to a premier college as a 5-9 receiver. He has overcome that obsticle all his life, and is now a 2nd round receiver. I like him a lot more than bigger wr’s because he’s had to work harder and prove a lot more to get here. Plus we need a deep threat

12
6:01 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

SDCOWBOYFAN:

Me I like Hardy.

13
6:02 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

I say now take BPA between WR and safety

14
6:03 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

If Jerry really loves somebody he should jump up and take them. I’m all for it. Screw quanity of picks, I want people JJ believes can play. I would love a speedy slot WR like Royal or Desan.

15
6:03 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

Or might we go with another CB, like justin king? Before pacman, all of us were talking about 2 CB’s, and if henry is moving to saftey, makes a good case for drafting without pacman in mind

16
6:04 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

Completely agree CaptainComeback…late picks are going to have a REAL hard time making this team!

17
6:05 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

Jake,
Maybe a safety with good coverage skills…are there any left? I admit I havent really followed them since I was hoping for a good WR and RB

18
6:06 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

torchinDefense:

Told ya’ll there would be a run in the 2nd.. no question

19
6:06 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

I think I’m more excited about this next pick than our first 2 rounds. Kind of new who we would take. This next one is a mystery.

20
6:07 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Ridgelake:

We go either TE or WR at 61, assuming we don’t move up.

21
6:08 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

onepaniolo:

JJ is on Cowboys cam NFL Network

22
6:09 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

Ridgelake,

Why not wait till 4th or 5th and pick up a decent FB…why TE? Serious question B/C I’m ignorant with draft stuff.

23
6:09 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

well tyrell johnson is left at safety, and one other guy. NOt very deep at safety this year

24
6:09 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Vegas,
Morgan or DeCoud coverage skills.

25
6:10 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

Why te, we traded fasano to miami yesterday

26
6:10 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

SDCOWBOYFAN:

nap time, hopefully I wake up before our 2nd rounder.

27
6:10 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

I love Tyrell Johnson but his coverage skills aren’t great from what I’ve seen.

28
6:12 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

Comeback,

I’d be happy with a little more versatility in the secondary. Either of them or a WR would make me happy

29
6:14 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

But we still have Curtis and witten…doesn’t seem like a second round need to me

30
6:15 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

thats true… te is prolly a reach in rd. two. curtis isn’t known for his blocking though, so i would assume that will come in later rounds

31
6:15 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Safety or WR is the call.

32
6:16 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

torchinDefense:

Captain,

Is he (Tyrell J) Roy Williams JR?

aka no coverage skills?

33
6:18 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

Jake,

Do you know how many TEs a team normally keeps. I figured with Garrets offence Two TEs and two FBs would be enough. Am I wrong?

34
6:18 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

torchinDefense:

61st sucks.. wish we were higher

35
6:19 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jerryw:

i still would like to see us get another 2nd…

36
6:19 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

torchinDefense:

3 TE’s IMO. One passing, One run/block and one flex.

37
6:20 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

AFCowboy:

Fellas,

I have loved the debate all day long, but now my two cents is merited.

We need Defensive Lineman. Wade is squirming in his seat thinking how he is going to create pressure with the likes of Spears et al.

We are sweet in the defensive backfield. I’m greedy too, so I want more. But, if there is someone who can bring it Justin Tuck style, that is our guy.

38
6:20 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

3 tight ends, cowboys have had 4 a couple of the past 5 years

39
6:20 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

torchinDefense:

yeah trade our 6th and other 7th for another 2nd.
There goes Hardy.

40
6:20 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

tight end has replaced the FB position in the cowboys offense

41
6:22 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

staubachfan:

With the trade that me made to move up to 25, what are our late round picks?

42
6:23 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Torch, Great at Run Support, Great Speed unlike Roy but so so coverage skills. Teams are in love with him.

Torch I think 61st sucks as well. I don’t want to wait. I wish jerry would trade our 4th and move up in this round and get who they want. We are not the Dolphins we don’t need 9 players to get better. Just a few.

43
6:23 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

WOW! eddie royal just got taken by the broncos…. he was thought to be a much later pick

44
6:24 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

F!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted Eddie Royal. F’n Broncos!

45
6:24 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

scout:

What a great first round.

I told you Dallas would take Felix Jones, and they took him over Mendenahll. I put some of concerns some scouts had about Mendenhall on the blog yesterday. Felix Jones will prove all his doubters wrong. I’ve seen him play many times. What a steal at number 22.

I told you the Titans wanted Felix Jones, and I told you to look for Chris Johnson (to Tennessee) after Dallas took Felix Jones.

That is exactly what happened.

46
6:25 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

scout:

Dallas flat out stole Mike Jenkins. To get a 4.38 CB at pick 25 is a steal. He could play safety and corner.

47
6:25 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

Jake,
HAS is the key word…Jason Garrett wants a good FB so I’m thinking we keep two FBs possibly 3 TEs this year…thanks for the insight.

Damn this is so much fun!

48
6:26 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

scout:

If Mario Manningham is there at 61, Dallas should gamble.

49
6:26 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Zapruder:

What quality receivers are left for 61? Sweed won’t be there.

50
6:27 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

tyrell johnson just got taken by the vikes. Man they got a good defense. So much for safety in this draft. as far as i know…

51
6:27 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Tighthead:

Raf,

Berman sounds like he is going to choke on his own fat turkey neck. One day he will.

52
6:27 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Ridgelake:

Damn, Tyrell Johnson just went off the board.

53
6:27 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

scout:

I read wher Tyrell Johnson has a partial tear in his ACL.

54
6:27 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Double FFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tyrell Johnson is gone.

55
6:27 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

cormanman:

Damn the Broncos.

Still, if Sweed is there at 61 then that’s awesome.

I really liked Royal though.

56
6:27 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

Hey scout,

I missed it yesterday…what were the concerns with mendenhall? I really like Jones over him because of speed.

57
6:28 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

cormanman:

The bottom half of the first and top half of the second is always the sweet spot in the draft.

58
6:28 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

I want a WR now.

59
6:31 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Lobsterman:

I’m surprised by some of the earlier posts regarding round#1. If you knew YESTERDAY that Dallas would get both Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins - You wouldn’t be happy??? Given a choice, I would’ve signed off on that immediately.

60
6:31 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Somebody on this board loved Forte I don’t remember who?

61
6:31 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

only 17 more picks till we go, there is still sweed, de sean jackson, and manningham. could one of them fall to us? do we go get one?

62
6:31 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Ridgelake:

Scout, you just lost all credibility with that Manningham quip. You have to be joking.

Oh wait, Desean Jackson is still around. Which one should we take Scout?

63
6:32 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Lobster, I think everybody is cool with it, just the fact the Mendenhall was on the board and we took Jones instead. I’m fine with Both. Great draft so far.

64
6:33 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jarhead:

Lobsterman,
I think many are pissed about the order and the fact we gave up 5th and 7th rounders to get back up to get jenkins; however, i think rafael makes a sound point in a couple of threads back.

Im already curious to see what red has up his sleeve with jones.

65
6:34 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jarhead:

breer is all up in arms that we didnt take mendenhall.

that actually makes me feel better.

66
6:35 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Lobsterman:

jake,

I’d love to go get Sweed if possible…

67
6:35 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

UnconventionalWisdom:

malcolm Kelly intrigues me. dropped b/c of bad 40 time, bu does he play faster? I’d prefer Sweed, but we’ll have to move up to get him i thnk.

68
6:35 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

I think with seattle, they had several teams looking to trade up, and a 5th from dallas wasn’t quite enough. So jerry throws in a 7th to put it over the top. Its questionable, but we got the guy we wanted

69
6:36 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

scout:

Ridgelake,

Mario Manningham may be the best WR in the draft. He is a first round talent. He has slid due to character and intelligence concerns.

DeSean Jackson was being projected in the firt round by many experts.

So, why don’t you get off your high horse.

I called the Felix Jones pick and was called out.

So, get in line.

70
6:37 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

I guys the Eagles are scared to pick. Guaranteed they take a WR with one of their next 2 picks.

71
6:37 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jerryw:

we have 1. second 1. third 1. fourth and a 6th left…what should we do?

72
6:38 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

I don’t want Manningham

73
6:39 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Zapruder:

Desean Jackson or Sweed would be amazing on top of our two first rounders. With these rookies and pacman reinstated the cowboys could be as dominant as the pats were last season.

74
6:39 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

well, don’t forget we have some extra picks from the trade with miami, so we still have an extra 3rd, and 1 5th left. I don’t think we have a 4th, we lost that to pacman tennessee trade

75
6:39 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

No way sweed falls to us…we need to move up if we want him! I’d call that a sucessful draft. Anything else would be a bonus to me

76
6:39 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Where’s Tex today?

77
6:41 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

whoops we got a 4 and 6 from miami… my fault

78
6:42 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Nice job Bengals. What?

79
6:43 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

jerome simpson, wr out of coastal carolina was taken above these other premier wr’s still available??? doesn’t make sense to me

80
6:44 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

We got a 4 and 6 from Miami…I thought it was just the 1st 4th rounder?

81
6:44 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

he’s definately gonna replace chad johnson!

82
6:44 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

scout:

VegasCowboy,

Some scouts believe Mendenhall doesn’t have enough lateral movement. They feel he may not be able to avoid hits and change direction fast. He dodged some agility drills, from whay I’ve read, at the combine. A scout said he isn’t sure about Mendenahall’s mental toughness. He was talking about Mendenhall taking a lot of punishment, and he didn’t know if he had the mental toughness to take it.

I’m glad Jerry Jones sees the need for some finesse in this offense. Felix Jones can run between the tackles.

You can either go through the wall, or you can avoid the wall and explode.

Felix Jones will aviod the wall and explode.

83
6:45 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

maplesyrup:

I just can’t believe Brohm and Sweed are still on the board!

84
6:47 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

Thanks Scout…we don’t need a P***y at WR. If thats true I don’t want him either. Simpson is off the board. Come on JJ…lets get sweed!

85
6:48 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

mowgli:

I can’t believe Desean Jackson hasn’t been drafted yet. Hey, did you guys know he is the most electrifying player in this draft?

86
6:48 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Ridgelake:

Scout, I actually would be fine taking Jackson now.

Manningham is an absolute bonehead. No way in hell would I draft him in the 2nd. Maybe in the 4th. But you said it yourself, “He has slid due to character and intelligence concerns.” Those are pretty big issues.

87
6:49 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

vegascowboy:

This pace is awesome! I’d rater be struggling to keep up than struggling to stay awake!

88
6:49 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

maplesyrup:

May have to trade up w/Pittsburgh to get Sweed… If he falls that far.

89
6:49 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

sweed will go to philly i think

90
6:50 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Lobsterman:

WR Jerome Simpson from Coastal Carolina ???

This is getting crazy…need to move to get Sweed.

91
6:51 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

mowgli:

Man, the Cowboys are still so far away :(

92
6:51 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

nope, jackson to eagles

93
6:52 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CowboyMan:

I like the pace of this draft. Goodell did a good thing.

94
6:52 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Ridgelake:

Well, there goes Jackson to Philly

95
6:53 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

dan conner of penn state is still on the board! that is unreal

96
6:53 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CowboyMan:

take out 2nd and 3rd and go get Sweed

97
6:53 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

texasmonster:

sweed wont make it past titans
so they better trade with pitt

98
6:54 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Chandus:

Sweed and Kelly are falling, wrist and knee are bright red flags.

99
6:55 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

I want Limas or Early

100
6:56 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Squidlo97:

Has anyone notice how the smaller quicker WRs are coming off the board faster. Is it because the recent failures of Charles Mike Williams and other big guys who cant seperate. I find it interesting.

Scout I like Manningham as well.

Captain Comeback, I was the one high on Forte. I wanted him with our 2nd but he is long gone. Watcch this guy, I think he will be a beast. He ran for Tulane and everyone knew he was all they had and he still ran for over 2000 yards.

101
6:57 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Ridgelake:

Raf’s favorite TE Bennett is still available too.

As is Dan Conner. Not that I’m advocating an ILB.

102
6:57 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Chandus:

Well, we’re going to see a lot of DeSean Jackson, we’ll have the CBs, we’ll need better ST play…

103
6:58 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Lobsterman:

SWEED still available at #51. Wow.

104
7:00 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Squidlo97:

I want a WR to groom under Glenn. A guy here to teach him to be a pro.

105
7:01 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Ridgelake:

Quentin Groves is available too

106
7:02 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Chandus:

Lobsterman:
Yeah, but we don’t know if teams medical staffs aren’t confident on his wrist. It seems that it’s indeed a big deal, he may suffer of chronic wrist problems, that’s a huge problem for a WR.

107
7:02 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jarhead:

skins are loading up on WRs.

108
7:02 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jerryw:

m. kelly to the foreskins

109
7:02 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Redskins another WR?

Maybe we should taken another CB? Division is getting tougher.

110
7:03 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

JJ, Listen to me trade up right now and take Limas.

111
7:03 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Squidlo97:

Crap, I dont like both of them going there. One is going to hit big.

112
7:04 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

limas isn’t a burner though, he doesn’t have great speed, and can dissapear against tough competition. I don’t think he is who we need at wr

113
7:05 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Chandus:

Well, we’re going to see as lot of DeSean Jackson, Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas… Having 4 decent prospects at CB’s becoming more valuable by teh minute…

114
7:05 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

kameleon_o:

Kelly just went to the DEadskins. That’s two top WR’s to our division rivals and Philly got Desean Jackson. Looks like they’re planning to air it out against our 4 great CB’s!!

115
7:06 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

rf@tj:

Wash has taken 2 WR and a TE in the 2nd, all 3 are taller than 6′2″.
Do we need another CB, someone like thomas from USC or Ikegwuonu from wisconsin?

116
7:07 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jerryw:

jax trades to the 52nd pick

117
7:07 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CaptainComeback:

Squid, Malcolm Kelly sucks. I’m worried about Thomas though. MAybe we need more secondary help.

118
7:07 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jerryw:

groves gone…

119
7:07 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

good thing wr’s don’t usually produce until 3rd or 4th years. Lets hope this is the case. there goes groves… but he looks like he woulda been a linebacker in our systme, so we didn’t need him

120
7:08 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Ridgelake:

No, Groves is not available any more. Jax takes him.

121
7:09 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Cuervo5012:

I just got home from work an hour ago. Man was I surprised!! I was talking to my dad on my cell and walked in to the list of picks scrolling across the screen. I remember seeing Felix Jones name come up at #22 and said to myself “Oh, we knew that was coming”, and then I saw that Mendenhall, a guy I thought we had NO shot at, was taken right after our pick and I yelled “OH NOOOOOOOOOO!!!”. Couldn’t believe it. THEN I saw that we drafted Jenkins with #25 and I flipped out again and yelled “OH YEAH!!!!”.

Just wild man. I don’t have a problem anymore with us drafting Felix Jones, came to terms with that a long time ago, but I do think that I would have gone with Mendenhall. To me it’s not that we should have picked Jenkins at #22 and then Felix at #28 because as Raf said he wouldn’t have been available. It’s that I would have taken Mendenhall, who’s a better back IMO, with #22 and then done what they did for Jenkins.

All in all though there’s NO DOUBT in my mind that we are a better overall team, maybe much better than we were before this draft started.

BTW, I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT DEVIN THOMAS FELL ALL THE WAY TO #34!!! Man, Avery was the 1st WR taken?? Are you freaking kidding me???

141
7:25 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Would be surprised if the pick is made. Maybe a trade out? Dan Connor? Wow that would really through a wrench into things.

142
7:25 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Guess I can argue about taking a WR early next year. Doucett and earl Bennett are still possible. Maybe FA vet later this year. get ready to pay out the nose for next year.

GB drafted a QB…poor Aron Rodgers

144

I say we go Caldwell. He’s got size and speed. Would make a great addition to the team. Need speed at WR!!!

Does Miami take Henne here?

146
7:27 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

lets not forget… roy williams (det) is a free agent next year, and wants to come to dallas. This is TO’s last year. We are likely to replace him with Roy.

Could be Connor as well.

148
7:28 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Two young QB’s on the Packers now. That’s not a great pick but I’m all for it. Every team that throws a pick away like that means a better player falls to us.

dan conner wouldnt shock me, nor would that TE rafael threw out recently.

Didn’t Miami take John Beck in the 2nd round last year?? Guess that was a wasted pick.

forget everything miami did last year, there is a new sherrif in town.

155
7:31 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Sean N:

I’d pick F Jones over Mendenhall…Mendenhall was a one year wonder at college, F Jones was productive for 3 years. He avged 8+ YPC last year and has the 2nd highest YPC (7.6 YPC) for his career of anybody in NCAA history with 350+ carries. Also he is a hell of a kick returner - returned kicks for 3 years avged 30+ per kick return one year, 28+ last year. big plus for the offense and the kick return game IMO

156
7:31 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

I’m with you. Harrison would be a great pickup. We could really use him.

163
7:33 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

kameleon_o:

Sean N.,

That’s all true, but I think Mendenhall actually has a chance to start in this league. I don’t know that Felix does. Felix Jones isn’t a bad pick at #22, just seems that way when a guy like Mendenhall was available.

164
7:33 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Now watch TB go Doucet….

Miamicowboy:

How does this make sense?:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft08/news/story?id=3368421

I thought Fasano was a good TE to be trading for a 4th? Akin would have been a cap move anyway.

166
7:35 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

beaner:

I say we have a bigger need at DT and we go with Red Bryant from Texas A&M. He has great size at 6-4 318 and strength. Which is what we need at the position.

167
7:35 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CowboyMan:

smackpat: I just cleaned out his bank account and made myself a co-signer on the account. When he gets his signing bonus I’ll get that too.

Geeze, don’t they teach these college kids anything.

Back from my nap. I see Buff. picked Hardy. Bummer.

170
7:36 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Sean N:

Mendenhall is a 3 down back thats similar in style to MB3. Jones is a better fit. Plus the KR possiblities.

Mendenhall may turn out to have a better career, but I think Felix is a better fit for us and we didnt reach to get him - hes a legit #22.

171
7:37 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

maplesyrup:

beaner, isn’t Harrison at DT a better pick than Bryant? That said, I like Bryant…

172
7:39 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

jake:

will jay ratliff move to DE, if we get a nose tackle? We just gave him a big contract

173
7:40 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

donnyposner:

What makes this a not a good draft?

Dallas’s Number 1 need was a WR.

Now, I’m not saying they should have taken one in the first round, but they could not work out a trade for Roy Williams, Anquan Boldin, or Chad Johnson.

They took a RB where he had little value. He’s an ok RB but you could have taken a complimentary RB later.

The CB is fine allowing Henry to move to FS.

What happens if TO goes down? Seriously.

2nd Round…I look at Martellus Bennett TE

I don’t think they got great value for Fasano & Ayodele, making them need a TE which they could have spent on something else.

174
7:40 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

rf@tj:

for DT I have Sims, Rubin or Morton (the last two will be available in the 6th i guess)

175
7:41 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

kameleon_o:

Sean N.,

Again, I agree. Felix is a legit #22. I just don’t like drafting “complementary” backs in the 1st round. I want a guy who can start if necessary. I do think Mendenhall will have a better career but who knows??

176
7:41 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

maplesyrup:

How ’bout trading our 61 to Miami, giving them the Michigen Henne/Manningham combo?

177
7:41 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

donnyposner:

Marcus Harrison
Red Bryant
Ayhtba Rubin

also makes sense but you may be able to get one of them at the end of the third.

178
7:41 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

UnconventionalWisdom:

Doucett please!

179
7:41 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Tighthead:

Is there any actual chance of Henry moving to FS? Not meaning to be a smartass to DP - serious question.

180
7:42 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

donnyposner:

Mannigham & Doucet have to be a possibility as well

181
7:42 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

CHARB:

If, Barber is a productive, tackle breaking, pro bowl RB and Mendenhall is a similar player.

Then, I want Mendenhall.

182
7:43 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

donnyposner:

Yes. We’ll see in training camp but my bet is he’ll spend some time at FS with Pacman and Jenkins in the fold.

183
7:43 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Tighthead:

Charb - I agree. harder to find than the complimentary back

184

Dexter Jackson is a really intriguing player. Extremely fast and explosive. Awesome as a KR/PR.

Dallas on the clock. Come on Caldwell or Doucet!!!

189
7:44 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

pick a freaking WR. NO dont need another TE. The reason why they shipped Fasano was because Tony Curtis ws catching everything thrown his way….oh, and because Witten is not that bad….

Cuervo5012:

whats going on in the war room right now?

192

CowboyMan:

Any guesses?

193
7:45 pm CT 26 Apr 2008

Maplesyrup: I’d be happy with either one. Bryant has more potential as big tough run stuffer who eats up blockers. Much like Jamal Williams does for SD.

The ILB from PSU - Bennett?

196

Chris Johnson is a better receiver, faster, and same size as Felix Jones.

197

We’ve already drafted one and maybe 2 guys who can return kicks.
That shouldn’t be a concern.

My guess for this upcoming pick is either going to be a guard or NT, so I’m going to say:

G–Mike McGlynn
