Another worry, is how well Green Bay is playing. Never mind that we beat them last month. It’s December, and only two more games, before it’s win or go home time.

This was a big division matchup. While I am disappointed like us all, the Cowboys need to focus on the last two games.
Despite Romo’s poor performance, he is still the one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. As he has shown us in the past, he has great ability to come back from hardship.

The reason the Eagles played poorly was the Cowboys D. Did anybody see how many knock-downs and pressures we put on Dovan McNabb?
I am confident the Cowboys come back and Tony Romo, who has a penchant for learning from his mistakes, will be at the forefront of correcting this.
The main lesson I believe this teaches the Cowboys is that, despite how good their passing game usually is, they must continue to run the ball, something they apparently forgot about in the 2nd half.

True Romo was the main reason we lost the game, however there is no reason to panic. It has been a while since Romo has played a bad game. Buffalo was him being stubborn not off, and the Detroit game show how cerebral he has become, again not off. He was due, pure and simple. I am somewhat concerned about his thumb however, but unless it is serious (which I doubt) he should be fine. The Eagles showed just how important Andre Gurode is to us, and that could be devastating. Even Romo, as elusive and accurate on the run as he is needs time and the effect on our mediocre running attack could put more pressure on Romo than he has the maturity to handle. IE: Detroit last year.

What a defensive performance. That’s championship defense right there. Yeah they didn’t get the final stop but hell, they were on the field, what, 45 minutes? Also, Garrett completely abandoned the run in the 4th quarter, even though we were only down by 4. Seemed strange, especially when your QB is shaky and has a banged-up hand.

“I’m afraid defenses have figured out how to shut him down” - as some others pointed out, I don’t think the Eagles figured out how to shut Romo down…what i did see however was Romo missing on a lot of throws that he has hit all season long…and in come cases missing badly…and also making some bad decisions. We just have to trust that this is the exception and not the rule…(i think his play in the previous 13 games should prove that). In short, I really think that Romo did it to himself much more than the Eagles or Lions did.
Assuming this thumb injury isn’t too serious (and we better pray that it’s not or we’re in trouble), let’s see if Romo and the boys can get back on track next week. We’re still a VERY legitimate threat in the playoffs and any team that doesn’t think that is asking for trouble.

Not only was this game ugly, but very alarming. If not for a miracle last week, the boys would be 0-2 in early december. I just don’t understand, why they went away from the running game, especially after Romo injured his thumb. It didn’t seem like J. Garrett made adjustments to offset the eagles pressure.

For you younger hands who didn’t see him live, know that many of Roger Staubach’s fantastic comebacks came after he had sucked out loud for 45-55 minutes and then bailed his team out.

A. Tony Romo has been playing football at a very high level for a long time. Since Junior High maybe?
B. In that time, he has had the opportunity to entertain lots of nice companions. I bet the line has generally formed to the left for him if he wanted.
C. I find it absurd to think that suddenly Romo has lost focus on his career because of a hot girl (girls?). I think Raf was being tougue-in-cheek as well.

Yeah, my biggest question on today’s loss is still with Garrett, not TO or Romo or anybody else. Romo didn’t have it today. Okay, that’s cool, that’ll happen sometimes. But why did Garrett continue to wing it at that point? We were down 4 points, not 24– RUN THE BALL! It seemed like Garrett may have been too stubborn or too arrogant in points…I am sure we had WRs open at times, and I’m sure he believed we could win by passing, but after a certain point, it wasn’t happening. Just let it go.
I’d like to see us be a team that can win even when it’s aerial attack is not clicking. Our O-Line is massive and our RBs are solid– there is no reason we should not be able to establish a physical, ground-based identity when it is required.

Deion Sanders called this when Dallas allowed GB to hang with them once Favre was injured, the Cowboys lacked a killer instinct.
Rafael says a letdown was coming. I see it a little differently, agreeing more with Deion. This team lacks what Championship caliber teams have. I see it with the Dallas Mavericks as well and called the Heats upset of them a couple of years ago in their Championship Series.
The importance of this game cannot be overstated. Win this game and your easiest remaining game next week and you effectively get a couple weeks off. Yet Dallas didn’t execute, much like last week and are FORTUNATE to be 1-1.
The contrast to Green Bay is striking. I am predicting right now, No Super Bowl this year.

You guys amaze me. One bad day by the offense and you’re ready to declare this team dead.
You need to look at history. Heck, let’s just look at this week.
Of the 12 playoff teams:
- GB, Tampa, Indy, SD & Jax looked good. Granted, only SD & Jax actually played anyone, but I digress.
- Pittsburgh looked wretched.
- Patsies nearly lost to the 2nd worst team in the NFL. Brady had 140 total yds, 1 INT, 0 TDs.
- NYG looked inept.
- Seattle lost to the 4th string QB. No D, no O.
- Cleveland scored 8 points total. Yes, it was snowing, but that was a very weak game.
Also keep in mind this Philly team nearly (should have) beaten NE 2 weeks ago. They have a very good (great?) defense.
And we still were driving to take the lead late in the 4th.
The D played good. ST was solid. No major injuries.
It could have been worse…OK, it couldn’t have. Maybe that’s the point. They WILL rebound from this.

Dallas is having a little slump but they can right the ship.
I think a very small part of it is the consistent winning. They expect to win and pull it out so they don’t give 110% but only 99% which is not enough in the NFL.
I think Jason Garrett is having a play calling slump as well. I have to wonder if they are holding things back for the playoffs….trying to keep some things from the tape. I do not know that but for two games now Garrett hasn’t moved TO around as much.
Romo wasn’t good today but he has been so superb this year, I cant say too much against him. As long as his hand is ok, he’ll be fine.
Getting TERRY GLEN back will be a huge boost if he’s able to play.
Crayton has had a few nice catches but we haven’t had a lot of production from the 2 and 3 WR’s since Craytons big 184yd 2TD day.
I do think we need to run a bit more and begin to get the ball out to 2-3 WR.
Garrett needs to review the tape of the past 2 games and determine what is different because the past two games we have been stoppable and prior we were not.

We beat Green Bay! Doesn’t that count for something? I mean I understand that today was horrible, but the Cowboys are still the number 1 seed in the NFC.

Four reasons for this loss.
1) Tony Romo was inaccurate. It happens to all QBs. I remember games where even Joe Montana was off. If he is equally off in the playoffs we won’t win, but he has been on for most of the season. This does not concern me
2) 3 picks to 0…The cause was #1 above, but the fact remains that if you lose the turnover battle by more then one you tend to lose.
3) Never established the run and did not even try in the second half. After all of those punts, they never even tried one series of three runs. This will not be long term either. I seriously doubt we go pass happy in the playoofs.
4) Injuries made the comeback more difficult. Romo’s hand needs to be right and we need Gurode. We can live with a loss along the d-line due to the debth.

I too was happy to see our defense play a good game. I would have been much more worried if we had lost due to the defense being unable to stop Philly.
Philly has a good defense and not may teams have the personnel to run the defense we saw in this game. Got to have good cover corners and smart saftey play to go along with phisical front seven play. Nice scheme if you have all those pieces.

Trey- Dead on about turnover differential. -2 or more doesn’t work often. Unless it’s Buffalo.
DCFan- I’m thinking Garett/Wilson should have a handle on Moore. Advantage us, but he knows our D, too.

Well, I did just read about that game on espn website. Strong winds played a role in the low scoring affair apparently. Holmgren was saying that they played “unlike themselves”, and they also didn’t run the ball hardly any and threw 41 times. Carolina has a very low ranked run defense though. Hmmm…

Carolina did not show me too much if we just play our game this is a win.
We were due a loss and it is not like the eagles D is chopped liver. They have played well for the past three weeks and the O finally did enought to get a Win. In the end it will be a good test to see how mentally tuff our guys are going to be these final two games.
The Giants and Seattle as well as the Steelers, and the Colts against the lowly raiders had bad games. it happens learn from it and move on.
Things like this happen as the teams in the middle of the pack begin to fight for there playoff lives. The level of play this time of the year picks up and the things that you were doing in october and november to win is not enough. Look at the tape, prepair the game plan practice the plan and then execute the plan make adjustments and kick Carolina’s A$$

That was disappointing, but bad games happen in a full season. Gotta move on and put it back together for Carolina, and they will. 12-2 is still outstanding.

Not making any excuses for Romo, but he has only started 24 games now. He’s going to have games like this every QB does. P Manning threw 6 Ints earlier this season.
We all know Jessica Simpson was at the game.
Romo’s dad was also at the game for the first time since his cancer surgery to accept an award @ halftime.

Give Jim Johnson some credit here. How the hell do you think they won all those nfc championships. Also Aikman had his crappy games and his best season was 13-3. As someone said in this thread how do you keep it up mentally all 16 games. Look N.E. just about choked to the Ravens who get beat by Miami.
Take 1994 we beat Houston 20-17 led by 3rd string qb Bucky Richardson. We beat the 3-13 Bengals 23-20 who i believe were led by Jeff Blake. bad games happen.

The pack finishes out with the bears and lions. The odds of them not being 14-2, I would guess, are very, very slim.
We finish out with Carolina and Skins.
Unless we relish the thought of going to Lambeau in January, I think it would be really helpful if the Skins lose to Minny next week. Otherwise, me no likey our chances of beating Wash in DC with them needing a win to get in the playoffs.
After seeing the pounding the lions took before and after our game (was it two 30 point+ losses), our 1-1 over the last two feels more and more like an 0-2. Add to that the craptacular performance we put in from about the late second quarter on against GB, and this Xmas is starting to feel a lot like recent Xmas pasts.

Jim Johnson? The Eagles had nothing to do with what happened yesterday other than their D Line beating blocks whenever Julius touched the ball. It’s incredible really how he gets engulfed behind the line consistently. I hold no blame towards him on this, but it doesn’t change the fact that it seems to happen with remarkable consistency.
Romo stunk yesterday, and I think so did Jason Garrett. That’s why the Cowboys lost. More accurate passing, less stupid gunslinging and showboating, more running plays, less forcing stupid passes… the Cowboys roll over the Eagles in a laugher.
What starlet did Garrett bring to the stadium, I wonder?

I too get tired of the reactions.
Did Dallas play horrible, yep.
But jeez you’d think that the sky had just fallen. Green Bay did run over the Rams, but Dallas pretty much manhandled Green Bay a couple of weeks ago.
Unless Dallas just plays horrid again against Carolina, lets just chauk it up as a bad game.

ElBarraco, there’s no guarantee the Cowboys will be going to lambeau. They have to beat good teams in the playoffs, not the Lions, Eagles and Favre-less Packers.
Those of us with more critical eyes, less cheerleaders than cynics, have been seeing this decline and have been commenting on it. It’s not so impossible now that we’re watching a team on an inexplicable decline.
There weren’t any killer penalties yesterday, just a general disfunction and lethargy on offense. I find it distressing. Hopefully a bye will give their bodies and minds some rest, and hopefully that’s what’s needed.
Gawd. On today’s Colin Cowherd show (he’s an ESPN radio douche bag) his daily straw man discussion is Jessica Simpson being in the stadium. “Let me tell you this, you’d never see Tom Brady invite his bimbo to the game.” Oh really, les douche bag? And that means precisely… what, exactly??
ya see, he makes exaggerated claims in order to incite response. The rhetorical conceit of setting up a straw man argument is SOOOOO overdone on talk radio, and speaks to a total and complete lack of talent or effort - it also means your audience is has head injuries or is from the midwest.
