Cowboys QBs of the Past
By Raul Villaronga  16 Comments

A nice montage. Some notes:

  • It’s amazing how many highlights in a row you see Meredith throw a TD to Bob Hayes. Still can’t figure out why the original #22 isn’t in the Hall of Fame.
  • Roger had a gun.
  • Aikman had a Howitzer — and made it look effortless.

Enjoy.

Can Hayes go in the HOF now or do we have to wait on veteran’s committee?

Hopefully, Irvin makes it this year. I know this is blasphemy, but I think it’s a crime that Art Monk isn’t in yet either. He played for the bad guys, but his career demands respect.

Tighthead:

Two things I loved about Aikman:

1. That unique backpedal

2. His gameface - he was all business, all the time. I think that really helped set the tone for that team - #8 didn’t come to play, he came to work.

Thanks Raul, Sometimes I forget how good Aikman really was. I have to say a few of those catches might not be catches upon further review.HaHa I remeber watching Staubach and Drew when I was a kid and thinking how much I wanted to be a Cowboy.

22 shouuld be in, but more relevant is #88! THIS YEAR! Wil they put him in like they should? What a ripoff.
Romo should study tapes of Staubach, they could have similar styles.
TO needs to study Irvin and how to use your body and fight for the ball.

Wow… where did you get that video? I’ve been a Cowboy fan for 36+ years, and saw most of those games (excluding the Meredith years). I remember watching Staubach and never really worrying when they were behind. What was it… 27 come from behind victories?

Romo seems to have that kind of confidence and late drive ability. As he matures, I see big possibilities!

Aikman was solid; Madden used to say, “He’s the most accurate passer in football!”

It would be nice to see the Cowboys return to that type of dominant team of the glory years.

Oh, BTW, thanks for the walk down memory lane.

Both of those examlpes would be great for them to study. Now if somebody could only convey that to them.

As far as #22 is concerned, I quess drugs and prison will tend to do that to a brilliant career. It’s a darn shame.

Great video! Obviously the Staubach ones are my favorites. Seeing Danny White brought back memories. He was really great but never got us to the Super Bowl. He broke my heart so many times with bad luck at the wrong time. And just when I thought we was having his best year ever, he broke his arm and was out for the season. When it’s all said and done, I hope Romo is remembered more like Staubach or Aikman and not like D. White.

Rafael that was great.

I grew up watching Danny White. It’s unfortunate that he will be remembered for not taking the
Cowboys to the Superbowl after
getting to so many NFC Championship games. He never threw the ball the same after breaking his wrist agaisnt the Giants.

No disrespect Staubacfan but I hope Romo is not remembered like a Steve Pelluer.

Fozzy,

I agree Steve Pelluer was bad. I liked Danny, I think he just had a string of bad luck. I’m supprised he never returned to the NFL to coach.

Staubach was my favorite - he was such a great athlete and tough as nails. I just can’t imagine Roger sliding feet first in today’s game.

Romo could be another Roger, I almost fell into the aisle at Texas Stadium when he completed that pass from the endzone against Detroit. Romo has Staubach-like athletic ability.

Raul,

GREAT VIDEO…

My 2-cents:

For every 1 second you have of Danny White you should have 2 seconds of Craig Morton.

Craig took us to a SB…he also took Denver to one which places him in extremely unique company.

Awesome stuff Raul!

Never have really seen Meredith play. Pretty cool. Seems like a QB that could exist in today’s game…Trent Green/Brad Johnson type.

Maybe it’s just me but Hayes seems not as fast as the legends and much more of a genuine WR. I was expecting a guy who just ran one route and was so far past the DB due to speed that his WR skills could be questioned.

That Staubach guy threw a lot of ducks. :)

Aikman’s gun is well remembered, but look how pretty and catchable those throws are. You’re completely correct…effortless. The guy was a natural.

Oiler Troll:

Hi Everybody!

Alright, nice montage. Even Oiler Troll enjoyed that, but he has 2 points to make:

1. Oiler Troll associates the background song (The Cure) with a bad break-up with a girlfriend in which he sat in a room, looking at a photo of his girlfriend while the song played….which is the same sickly feeling you get when your team gets knocked out of the playoffs on something stupid such as a missed snap.

2. Where were Craig Morton and Gary Hogeboom in those clips?

DallasPalace:

I want to buy this clip! How can I get a copy? The coolest thing I saw in this clip was the oldy Silvery shiny dark blue jersey’s that are like a silvery version of the Colts dark blue jersey’s, but lighter than that flat dark blue of their color. But real shiny- I love it! Bring back those jersey’s as our jersey to wear this coming year- that would be awesome. Classic Cowboy design!
